A mixture of All-American apple pie, a dash of sass, and a little Arab culture obsession is the Katie I know. We used to live together when I was at Mason, and I couldn't have asked for a better, more considerate roommate.
Portraits
The Parking Deck.
I've always had an interest in editorial photography. The way stories can be told, created, and just the pure creative force that can be put into making one image is like nothing else. There are no rules here.
I've finally found some time to explore it myself. I have no expectations, so I could be awful at it. But I can't say there's a lack of trying. This is one image from the shoot with a couple of my friends. They were nice enough to stay up really late, "trespass" on a public parking deck, and allow me to do their makeup. I'll introduce you to them later. For now, this is the beginning of a long editing session.
Thank You.
I think we sometimes forget just how much we owe our soldiers. These people are putting their lives on the line for us. We may not know their names, the how, or the where, but they are. I want to say thank you to my cousin, Ethan, for doing just that with the Marines.
Ethan, you are awesome for doing what you do. I wish we could see you more often, but know that your family loves you so much!
Father's Day.
I made a short trip to Blacksburg for Father's Day last week. It was really great to see my family and have some time to relax. The more I'm away, the more I appreciate and love this place. I have so many memories from growing up here; my first day of school, getting dirty on the motocross track, swinging on vines in the woods before catching the school bus, riding horses, family reunions...the list goes on.
As real life sets in, I'm realizing how fleeting this place could be as part of my life. I'm in the process of recording everything that I can. You won't believe how many crazy stories my grandparents have from when they were young. I enjoy listening to them whenever I spend time there. This is the beginning of that record.
Nag's Head, NC.
Last week I went to Nag's Head to hang out with old friends and meet new ones. It was a great time to relax and escape from life for a bit. Taking my camera was a given, though. Never leave home without it!
